How We Met

01/12/2018

It all started with a right swipe! With our busy schedules, meeting someone was very difficult so we took to the world of online dating where we matched and began our relationship. Our first date was at The Depot Grille in downtown Lynchburg next to the railroad tracks. Allie greeted me with a hug and we enjoyed conversation over a meal as we got to know one another. As the evening was coming to an end, we placed pennies on the tracks and sat on the tailgate of his truck admiring the star-filled sky awaiting the train to roll by. We still have that first flattened penny to this day.

The Proposal

12/22/2018

The morning of the proposal was extremely nerve wracking for me. Jenn hated being blindfolded, but when I picked her up, I insisted she close her eyes the entire drive. I wanted to bring her back to the place where it all began. You see, we had a flattened penny from our very first date and then again from our 6 month anniversary when I recreated our first date at The Depot Grille and I wanted another to mark this special day. I led her directly in front of the railroad tracks, outside of the restaurant, early in the morning. When she opened her eyes, she immediately began crying. I am not very good at keeping secrets, so she saw this coming. I started my speech, nervously, that I had been practicing for weeks and got down on my knee to ask the love of my life to be my wife. The ring was customized exactly how she wanted to resemble her mother's. She replied with, "Of course I will!" We waited for the train to pass as we called our loved ones to share the good news. Later on, I took her to her parents house where all our family was gathered to surprise her. I still can remember the look of excitement and love on her face through-out that unforgettable day.

Her Covid Wedding

May 2, 2020

The day was finally here and covid wasn't going to stop us! It definitely took some adjusting to prepare for all the changes we had to make but, our wedding was just as beautiful as I had hoped it would be! My dad, Jim, helped Allie and I build a beautiful archway as our background placed in front of Tim (Our Pastor) and Jyl's (his wife) get away cottage on their property. The scene was set under gorgeous sunlight with a crystal clear blue sky. Our parents and siblings (almost all) were able to be there, keeping it under then 10 people guidelines. My sister, Kimmy and her husband were not able to travel but were there by means of a phone and tripod! We all got ready and when I saw my soon to be husband dressed in his best, I knew that nothing else mattered. Any sadness or anxieties I had just melted away. My daddy walked me down the isle to meet my husband while "Tale as Old as Time" instrumental from Beauty and the Beast (my favorite childhood princess movie) played and we said our own written vows and shared our first kiss as husband and wife! After, we had communion to remind us even more that our marriage is a union with God and He is the one who made this day possible. Allie then took my hand and led me to dance to our first dance song, "I Will be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman. This was a song that I always cherished as it tells that no matter the circumstances, the heart ache, or trials, I Will Be Here. This was the song that I played for Allie on the day we got engaged and we slow danced in the street under the stars. As the day wrapped up, we release butterflies that we watched over since they were little caterpillars! We returned to my parents house to have pizza (which I always said I would have at my wedding when I was younger) and a surprise video! This video made by Allie's best friend (and now mine), RJ, compiled of short messages from those of you who couldn't make it! You all shared loving words that brought so many tears to my eyes! We can't express how much that meant to us! Overall, the day was filled with lots of laughter, pictures, and many joyful tears and it is a day that I will never forget!

His Covid Wedding

May 2, 2020

It all started on a beautiful May morning as I woke up and started to gather things for the Amazing Day ahead. I had never imagined a wedding day such as what was to come but that's what made it so perfect. Heading to the location I was just as nervous as I was the day our first date came about. Nervous in the most beautiful way as I was about to Marry My Best Friend! Once arriving to this gorgeous land I made my way with the guys down to where we would be getting ready. We talked and chatted as the girls were beginning to take photos upstairs. We began to get video downstairs after we were all dressed and once that was done it all became oh so real! I was placed by our photographer by a tree outside and was told to close my eyes. I stood and waited for a few minutes until I felt a slight tap on my shoulder. The most gorgeous human being was in my sight as I turned around and saw my Stunning Wife in her wedding dress for the very first time! Oh the feeling I will never forget! Oh my was she so beautiful as she always is. We were out there for a few minutes and then were told to head back in to get ready for the ceremony that was soon to follow. Once I made it back inside our officiant greeted me and began to pray for me and pray for the entire day bringing great joy and peace to this most joyous day. Once closing the prayer we made our way outside and began to get ready for everyone to soon take their seat. It felt like forever until I saw my everything again! It felt like hours before she stood in front of me as I was waiting and waiting for her to join my hands in front of our families. There she was! She was standing right in front of me! The moment I had so been waiting for had arrived. We now faced each other and began the ceremony. We were so happy and excited this was happening! For the longest time thanks to the virus we were thinking we wouldn't even be able to have a wedding on that date. Was a blessing from our lord above that we were able to keep the date and had such a wonderful sunny day outside. Now Jenn and I were Mr. And Mrs. Raines! I tipped her back and gave her the biggest kiss after walking back down the aisle together! We had now made it! She was now all mine and mine for the rest of My Life!
