Our Story

Her Version

I was trying out the online dating thing but after what felt like a lifetime of swiping through pics of shirtless men petting tigers in Thailand, realized it wasn't for me. Before I deleted the dating apps for the tenth time, I saw the app was coordinating a free agent volleyball team. So I signed up! And that's where I met Nick. After every game, the team would go out for drinks. In our first interaction, Nick told me he was new to SF and worked as an engineer at a tech startup. Snooze. Classic story as told by every 20something bachelor in the city. While it wasn't love at first sight, I am grateful that our volleyball team brought us together every week. Cue the smooth jazz elevator music as the next several months were a slow burn... …and we're back. One night, I invited Nick to join my friends and I at karaoke. Nick quickly jumped on the mic and I immediately felt secondhand embarrassment (this is the part where someone should have warned me Nick is a professionally trained thespian/singer/songwriter/musician). Nick had a cool confidence, a carefree energy, and was a true definition of what it means to “march to the beat of your own drum”. His standout performance of Mambo No. 5 made me fall in love faster than eyeing a dozen fresh-baked donuts in that unmistakable bright pink box. We still weren’t dating yet, but I knew Nick was someone special. The “hey everybody watch my boyfriend sing I Try by Macy Gray” later became my favorite party trick. In the words of Miss Gray, “I try to say goodbye and I choke, try to walk away and I stumble, though I try to hide it, it’s clear, my world crumbles when you are not near”. Preach girl. TLDR: we met on a dating app and I fell in love with a karaoke star. xo

Our Story

His Version

I first met Jenn on a free agent volleyball team. I think she took it more seriously than I did. She was there to get kills & I was there to get beers after. Even though I don’t think she appreciated my cavalier attitude towards the games, I was invited to join her bar trivia team, where I discovered that her competitiveness was not limited to the volleyball court. I couldn’t believe that another person could have as much enthusiasm for the music round as myself. We continued to get to know each other over the course of the season as well as at Jenn’s Fancy Friday happy hours. During trips to Nashville & Park City, I started to realize that I’d found my perfect companion in Jenn (even though she snowboards). Since then, whether it be family vacations, urban hikes, wine tastings, house hunting or any type of adventure, I’ve been so lucky to have Jenn not only a partner but also a worthy adversary, and I couldn’t feel luckier to get to romp through the rest of our lives together.
