FAQs

Bonus tip before the Q and As-- use a travel credit card to get free flights!! Talk to Jes if you want advice on this. It is how she gets to most of the far away places.
Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

Semi-formal: We ask that you wear semi-formal attire such as a cocktail-length (or longer) dress or dressy separates for women and a lightweight suit and tie for men. Tropical colors are encouraged. We recognize that we are asking you to dress up in July in Mexico and that it will be hot. The ceremony and reception area will be in a breezy area, but also rock the lightweight suit fabrics, flow-y dress cuts, and cold margaritas if you want to stay cool! The wedding itself won't be on the beach, just near the water on a cobblestone surface. You shouldn't need to walk on sand, but it is sand-adjacent.

Question

Why did you choose this venue?

Answer

A few reasons!! We wanted something that felt nature-y and jungle-y. We also didn't want a "mega-resort" style hotel, where from the beach you just see a behemoth hotel building. Additionally, even though neither of us usually travels the all-inclusive resort route, we thought staying at an all-inclusive resort would simplify planning for people so they didn't have to worry about where to eat and drink, if they needed to go grocery shopping. etc. When we found this resort, we were SUPER EXCITED. Jungle Vibes? Check? Nature-y? It connects to two massive nature parks! Bungalow style housing instead of massive hotel blocks? Bingo. Also, the rooms seem pretty affordable! So much winning.

Question

How long should we travel for?

Answer

Personally, we suggest quitting your job, selling all of your things, and just bopping around Latin America for a while (or maybe that's just Jes's dream, unclear). We will be flying out Thursday, June 29th, through Wednesday, July 5th. The actual wedding will be on the 3rd, so anytime you want before that, and stay as long as you like. Live your best life.

Question

Can we be travel buddies and go on the same flight?

Answer

YES PLEASE We are going to Mexico Thursday -- Wednesday. Want to join us on our flights? Party more/ share a bus to the hotel? ORD --> CUN - 6/29/23 - American Airlines flight 1193- Departs at 10 AM, Arrives at 1:30 PM CUN --> ORD - 7/05/23 - American Airlines flight 215- Departs at 2:40 PM, arrives at 6:55 PM

Question

What should I bring?

Answer

- Sunscreen: reef safe is a plus! Save the oceans! Jes had to buy sunscreen at the resort and it was 30 dollars for a bottle that would cost 9 dollars stateside. This is our fav sunscreen. It is expensive for a one bottle, but it lasts forever and is TSA size friendly. Worth the cost! https://gotskinnies.com/ - 2 big travel mugs: Get you a super size cup and save some trips to the bar! And be hydrated! Double fist your booze and water. - Allergy medicine: there are a lot of trees around, so you might be a bit sniffily - Waterproof fanny pack: If you want to spend time in the pool, and not worry about leaving your phone by the chair, bring a fanny pack! You can throw cash, your phone, and any other valuables in it. - Conditioner: it is not provided in the room. -Single US dollars: getting money out at the ATM was outrageously expensive, and it was nice to have cash to tip people. - Something with long sleeves and pants: If you get burned easily (not Jessica, obviously), it is nice to have something to cover up with. -Snacks(?): There isn't much access to quick grab-and-go snacks. If you will be sad without those, bring your own!

Question

Did you make a playlist so that we can learn some of the best Spanish songs and be ready to dance?

Answer

Wow, what an oddly specific question. But YES we did. Bailamos y Bebemos: We drink and dance!!! Get your regaton and salsa onnnnn https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0rGP0MDbW5MsxqmjGfRJRs?si=271f309eae1442ed

Question

The 4th of July? Why are you stealing our holiday weekend?

Answer

No, we don't hate the troops (iykyk). And we know!!! Holiday weekends are precious. But since we were asking everyone to travel, we wanted to do it over a federal holiday so people could take as little time off work as possible. It seems like the hotel maybe celebrates the 4th of July if you are sad about missing that?? But idk. We will try our best to make it worth your time. Pinky promise.

Question

Will you help with booking travel?

Answer

We are thinking about how we can make this easiest for everyone. As of now, we don't plan on using a travel agent, but are looking into things like shuttles from the airport. Maybe we could make a party flight and everyone could fly over together. The options are limitless. If you have any suggestions or questions, please reach out so we can help.

Question

What's the deal with kids?

Answer

After probably way too much debate, we decided to have a child free reception. We strongly suggest you don't bring your youths so you can have an adult fun weekend and get drunk without fear of having a hangover and an antsy kid to care for the next day. However, we don't hate kids (excpe the ones who suck. None of yall have those kids though, so no stress). If you want to bring your kid on vacation with you, we request that grandma/grandpa/babysitter comes with to help on wedding day. (We are pretty sure that the hotel charges per room instead of per person, so it might not affect your bottom line.)

For all the days along the way
