One warm summer day, Jen and Joseph had their first date at Cali’s before seeing an action-comedy at the AMC theater. Dinner and a movie, the simple yet tried and true first date. We met at the end of a stressful time for us both— myself (Jen) on the last day of Turn**, and Joseph the day he finished helping his parents move into a new home. The thing I loved most about Joseph was how easy it was to talk to him. We came from different worlds— video games and art— and yet we somehow understood each other easily and deeply. After a busy couple of months of helping my (Joseph’s) folks with packing and moving to a new home, Jen and I’s first date was a breath of fresh air. The thing I loved about Jen right away was how energetic she was. We had talked on FaceTime before met and she had mentioned how brutal Turn could be. To see her come out that and still be totally energetic and positive as if none of that had happened… It really showed me how she goes about life. That no matter how hard things get, you can totally find happiness. And that’s what I loved about her when we first met. **Turn: Jen worked in student housing Property Management from 2020-2024. Turn is a period of 2-4 weeks where all the students move out for the summer, and the staff has to ready over 500 beds for new incoming residents. Suffice to say: very busy and stressful.
