Our Love Story

"Not Doing Long Distance" to "Can't Get Off the Phone"

December 2023 will always be the month that changed everything—a month of reconnection, laughter, and, ultimately, love. It all began in Nigeria, where both of us were thrilled to reunite with our families. Rachael couldn’t wait to soak up every moment with hers, while Uche…well, Uche had his own plans, too. Let’s just say he wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity for some quality family time either! The first time we met, it was at a restaurant. Uche was sitting with his brother and friend, looking all calm and composed, while Rachael walked in with her cousin—who, by the way, also happens to be Uche's brother-in-law. Funny how life works, right? I glanced over at Uche and thought, "Oh wow, he’s cute," but immediately brushed it off with a firm, "Nope, I’m not about to get caught up in some long-distance romance." Meanwhile, Uche was having his own little internal meltdown, thinking, "Wow, she’s gorgeous," but, of course, was too stunned to speak. We all ended up in a lively conversation, and somehow, the topic of marriage came up. As we shared our thoughts, it was like a light bulb moment for both of us—we had the same core values. The chemistry was undeniable. But here’s the kicker: we left the restaurant without exchanging any contact info. Bold move, right? Fast forward to the next day, Thursday. Rachael went to the Christian meeting with her cousin’s family. Guess who was there? Yep, Uche. Busy with his theocratic activities, he still made time to say, “It was nice seeing you again, but I have another meeting to attend. Maybe I’ll see you around.” Rachael, thinking this was goodbye forever, replied, “Oh, okay.” But then her cousin, bless his heart, shouted, “Uche, she’s leaving tomorrow—you’ll never see her again!” That’s when Uche quickly asked, “Can I come with your cousin to drop you off at the airport?” Rachael smiled and said, “Sure.” What followed was an unforgettable 2-hour ride filled with laughter and deep conversation. Then came the plot twist: her flight was delayed by 8 hours. Those 8 hours turned out to be a gift. We talked, laughed, and discovered so much about each other. When it was finally time for Rachael to board, Uche hesitated for a moment before asking, “Can I have your number? I’d really like to keep this conversation going.” Rachael, skeptical but intrigued, thought, "If he turns out to be weird, I’ll just block him," and handed over her number. Once Rachael landed back home, Uche checked in to make sure she was safe. Then, with that signature confidence, he asked, “Are you free for a phone call?” She said yes, and what was supposed to be a simple chat turned into a marathon 9-hour conversation. By the end of it, we both knew—we had found "the one." We prayed for the same things, valued the same principles, and now, it felt like Jehovah had perfectly aligned our paths. From that moment, love blossomed. Uche eventually asked Rachael to marry him, and let’s just say it was the “EASIEST YES EVER!” Today, we’re beyond thrilled to celebrate this special day with all of you. Jehovah brought us together, and we wouldn’t change a single moment of our journey. We’re soooooo HAPPY and can’t wait for what the future holds!
