FAQs

Question

I am visiting India for the first time. Do you have any general advice?

Answer

1. Safety & Getting Around - India is warm and welcoming, but like any big trip, a little caution goes a long way. - Use trusted apps like Uber or Ola for rides instead of street taxis. In smaller towns, hotel-arranged cars are a safe option. - Keep a copy of your passport photo page and visa handy, just in case. - Be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas—crossbody bags that zip up are helpful. 2. Food & Dining - India is a food lover’s paradise! Street food is delicious but stick to well-known stalls or restaurants recommended by locals or your hotel. - Most hotels and restaurants cater to international guests, so you’ll also find plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and even continental options. 3. Water & Health - Drink bottled or filtered water only. Avoid ice unless you know it’s from filtered water. - Carry hand sanitizer and tissues, especially when sightseeing. - Pack any personal medications you might need, as brands can differ here. 4. Comfort Tips - Dress in light, breathable clothing for daytime adventures, but bring a scarf or wrap for temples or modest sites. - Comfortable walking shoes are a must—there’s so much to explore on foot! - Keep some cash on hand for small shops, but most places also accept cards and digital payments.
