We met on a pedal pub in Lincoln during the first week back to school. Maggie almost didn’t go—she decided last minute to join her friends. Jeff was in Omaha hanging out with his buddies when they dragged him into the car and drove down to Lincoln. Neither of us expected much—just a fun night with friends. We ended up sitting next to each other and started talking, which quickly turned into swapping fake names and ridiculous stories. At one point, Jeff even showed off his zoo membership (because why not?). Maggie was a senior at UNL, and Jeff was studying nursing at UNMC. After that night, we kept talking here and there… until Maggie decided to make the first move a few weeks later. From there, things just clicked. We found out we grew up five minutes apart, knew a ton of the same people, and somehow never met—even though we were at the same high school events. Fun fact: Maggie remembers seeing Jeff and his friends win first place for their Napoleon Dynamite costumes at the Mount Michael Halloween dance. She thought it was hilarious…just didn’t know she’d marry Napoleon... Fast forward five years: we’ve built a life full of karaoke nights with friends, cheering on Creighton basketball (and occasionally Iowa football), hosting game nights, “friendly” pickleball matches, cooking together, and spoiling our dog, Boomer.
