We went here on our first date. Four years later, we had a picnic here and got engaged. This is where we are getting married! Take a beautiful 3 mile walk around the lake around sunset, it's lovely! It also has the oldest wildlife refuge in North America. You can also go to the boathouse and rent a kayak or a sailboat during the summertime.
A relaxing beach in Alameda, CA just 15 minutes from Oakland. It has a view of the San Francisco skyscrapers.
Our favorite park filled with Sequoia trees
Cllmb up the UC Berkeley Campanile to see a beautiful view of the San Francisco bay area. https://visit.berkeley.edu/campus-tourscampanile-tour/
If it's your first time here, definitely visit the Golden Gate Bridge! You can bike across it (lots of places to rent) and go all the way to Sausalito or Tiburon and ferry back to SF. A good viewpoint is Hawk Hill.
Diane's favorite place to run (when she was still into running). Some old ships parked in this location. Afterwards get an ice cream sundae at the Ghirardelli across the park.
This is our ritual every Saturday. Walk to the farmer's market and get some food and listen to live music.
Great for kids and adults. They have an exhibit on NASA
Our favorite place to go on Sundays. They have bars, restaurants, and a dock where you can go paddleboarding or kayaking. You can also take the ferry to San Francisco from here.
A very beautiful beach. Come here to surf or watch the sunset.
Our favorite bookstore. There are also a good number of places to eat and drink nearby.
Jeffery really likes Korean food. He even gets free stuff here because he speaks Korean. Try the soondubu soup, it's his favorite!
This is a short walk from our apartment. On Saturdays you can see all types of folks doing all types of things like drumming and dancing and circus type things. We love the energy and the California sunshine!
Stop by the botanical garden at UC Berkeley. If you keep going up the road towards Lawrence Hall of Science, you'll be rewarded by a magnificent view of the east bay!
A really nice rose garden close to everything!
It is one of the earliest "themed" amusement parks in the United States. It opened in 1950. We pass by it on our way to work everyday. I've actually never been inside because you need to have a child to gain admission so if you ever plan on going here, bring me with you :) - Diane
This is a short walk from Diane and Jeffery's work places. From here you can walk along the embarcadero and visit the Exploratorium or keep going to visit Pier 39 (where all the tourists go)
Pier 35 is where the boat leaves from. It's best to reserve in advance, or show up super early morning on the day you want to go to reserve a spot.
Super touristy area, but fun to check out and it's a nice walk along the water (there's a small beach too). Pier 39 has the sealions! It’s also near Ghirardelli square with ice cream and chocolate. Boudin bakery is here with animal-shaped bread
Looks like a pyramid. It's an iconic building along the city skyline.
The main one leaves from Powell St and Market St, but there's another line (that fewer people know about) along California St.
The infamous zig zag street you may have seen in movies or on TV.
Huge park! There's a Japanese Tea garden, a bison paddock, botanical gardens, the California Academy of Science (nightlife!), Stow Lake, etc. Great to bike around (there's bike rental places nearby).
Walk along the water for a great view of the Bay Bridge (especially at night). You can also see cupid’s arrow, the Exploratorium (nightlife!), arts installations, etc.
