2009. High School. Whitman-Hanson. Facebook messenger. Why are these things relevant? Just prior to starting our freshman year of high school, we came from two different towns – Shannon from Hanson and Jeff from Whitman. Two towns merged, a whole new hoard of people to meet and relationships to be formed. Late August 2009, a friend of Jeff’s mentioned after a football practice that he was interested in one of the girls from our neighboring town and that she had a friend I should talk to, who turned out to be Shannon. Naturally, the first thing Jeff did was hop on Facebook and send Shannon a Facebook message (super charming, right?). After some back and forth, a couple hangouts. Shannon and Jeff were boyfriend and girlfriend. Then Jeff made quite possibly the dumbest decision of his life and decided to break it off and within a couple months, realized the error in that decision. Despite numerous text messages from Jeff to Shannon throughout that summer, he never got much of a response. Then on Shannon’s 16th birthday, in September of 2010 Jeff sent a happy birthday text that, thankfully, reopened the line of communication. The rest is history. By October 24th we were “Facebook official” and have been inseparable since. Graduating high school together in 2013, both attending college at UMASS Boston, buying and selling a house, working the frontline through a pandemic. Things have come a long way since we met through a Facebook message, but one thing has never wavered: our love for one another. On June 7th, 2025, we are looking forward to celebrating over 14 years together, and finally getting to call each other husband and wife, with our closest friends and loved ones in attendance.
