How We Met

Finding True Love in a Southern Place

Our wonderful bride was born and raised in Dothan, Alabama. The city best known for it's, let's say, peanut art. Meanwhile our groom hails from Texas, where he learned about hard work and family values, and was happy to make the transition to our hometown of Dothan to be closer to his brother, sister, nieces, and nephews. Now neither Regine nor Jeff knew what they had in store for them on the cool, fall evening that I decided to visit home from Tallahassee. Anyone and everyone from the area knows the only proper place to go to boot scootin boogie is Cowboys. Regine being a natural introvert, took a lot of convincing to get her through the doors of that honky tonk. While catching up on conversation at the bar, suddenly a gentleman resembling a young version of "the most interesting man of the world" appeared, asking Regine for her company and if she would like a drink. We both looked at each other with expressions of approval and off she went. After a short while I walked over and demanded to know who her suitor was that dared take her away from my company without offering a name or a drink to Regine's clearly important friend (that's me, by the way). Needless to say, in a typical Jeff fashion, he smoothly responded and entirely disregarded my arrogance. Instead he kindly told me his name, background, and checked if I needed a refill. Impressed that my protective attitude did nothing to phase him, I told him not to worry about the refill and it was nice to meet him. Numbers were exchanged, and from what I can tell, they've been a hit together ever since. I imagine that the idea of meeting the love of their lives was never fantasized to take place where Johnny Cash was blaring in the background and quarter shots were being thrown back, but there you have it. You never know when you're going to find true love, but I guarantee if you live in Dothan, Alabama, it is going to be in a southern place.
