On May 24th, 2007, Kaelyn sent a text message to Jeff: “Hey, how are you?” When Jeff replied, “I’m good! How are you?” she went forth with her pre-planned response: “Oh, sorry, I thought I was texting my friend Jess, but I’m glad to hear you’re well!” See, children, way back when, the way you sent a text was by writing your full message first, then scrolling through your digital Rolodex of alphabetized names. At the time, Kaelyn was working at SCDS, the private school Jeff’s children attended. What Jeff didn’t know was that earlier that day, one of Kaelyn’s coworkers had dared her to message the “hot single dad” to see if she could snag a date with him. What Kaelyn didn’t know when she sent that text was that Jeff was at dinner with his college buddies, who were egging him on to ask her out. After several texts back and forth following the initial “Hey, how are you?”, Jeff asked Kaelyn to dinner. And as every great love story goes, the rest was history!
