How we Met

A Vacation to Remember

We met in Cancun, Mexico where we both attended a wedding. Andrew (aka Drew) was in the groom's party and they are cousins. I was the makeup artist for bridal party and I am also cousins with the bride. On the day before the wedding, Drew and I crossed paths by the pool, while some of the bridal party had been hanging out, this is when we were first introduced. Drew was all smiles and that is how I knew the difference between him and his twin brother. Later that night, we met again at the pre-wedding event where I quickly spotted Drew with the same smile as seen earlier and we briefly chatted. Drew and I did not cross paths again until after the wedding and he did not leave my sight from then on. We hung out for the rest of the trip, including the extra unplanned day I spent in Cancun. After the trip in Cancun, Drew returned to Atlanta, and I returned to Maryland. We stayed in touch and continued to get to know each other over the phone. After months of phone calls, texts, and FaceTime we made plans to hang out. I traveled to Atlanta where we had a first date weekend; we called it "Jebbeh Drew Weekend". That weekend was amazing. We had a ball, and really enjoyed each other's company. I did not want to leave. After that, I just knew Drew was someone special and our relationship continued to unfold.

The Proposal

Destination Engagement

Andrew (Drew) and I planned a trip to St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Island. I planned some of the vacation, but Drew took on the responsibility of searching for a nice dinner date location. A fancy dinner date had become a tradition of ours since our visit to STK Steakhouse on our first date weekend ("Jebbeh Drew Weekend"). So, every weekend that we would hang out or travel we had to include a dinner where we could dress nicely, have great food, nice cocktails, and amazing ambiance. Drew began searching for the restaurant well before our arrival to St. Thomas. I thought, "Man he is really trying" but nothing more occurred to me. He made reservations for a beautiful steakhouse that was at a highpoint of the island. The restaurant had beautiful views of the island at night and the walls were made up of folding glass doors. We ordered the exquisite food they had to offer and had some fancy cocktails. I was quite talkative throughout the night and I kept talking about things I look forward to in our future, Drew shared his thoughts on that as well. For dessert, I was so full from all the food I ate I almost did not order dessert, but when I saw the restaurant had cremebrulee I figured I could fit that in. The server came around with my dessert plate and I immediately noticed it had candles on it. I was so confused, thinking "Did Drew tell them it was our birthdays?" They set the plate down, which had writing on it, it read, "Will You Marry Me?" It took a while for me to process. I looked up from reading the plate and Drew was coming around to me, he set the ring box on the table, got on one knee and asked, "Will You Marry Me?" My response, "Stop playing with me!" He asked again, "Will You Marry Me?" to which I answered, "YES!" You could hear cheers and applause in the restaurant and he placed that gorgeous ring on my finger. I was shocked and elated. We were ENGAGED!
