Why Is There a Wedding Round 2?

We initially chose February 20, 2021 as our Wedding date in the Summer of 2020. Maybe y’all remember those 2 weeks in June where it felt like COVID may be over by Fall — we were intoxicated by that optimism and booked our venue & vendors then. At the turn of the new year, when the COVID picture wasn’t any rosier we had a hard decision to make. Postpone the wedding or press on. We consulted with our family, friends, and vendors and decided to press on. Due to COVID, we’d already made a lot of compromises on how our Wedding would look & feel and ultimately, we wanted some sense of control by keeping our initial date. Come the week of the wedding, we lost any control we had. A once-in-a-millennia ice and snow storm descended onto Texas and froze the entire state. We won’t linger on that dark spot but a large portion of our guests were frozen in Texas AND as the storm moved East it continued to ruin travel plans. So, on Wednesday of the original week, we made the call to postpone the big ceremony and reception. Still, we were extremely blessed that week. Both sets of our parents (as well as a lovely group of friends and extended family) were able to make it to Savannah. We were wed, both in the eyes of God and the Court, on February 20th. While a headache in the moment, we’ve come to appreciate how much of a blessing Wedding Round 2 has become. We are extremely encouraged by the vaccination rates and the upcoming return to normalcy. Hopefully that means those of you who weren’t comfortable coming in February will be able to do so in November. Other good news: our venue has increased their capacity limits which means we can invite more lovely people! Becky got married in a walking boot in February and now she’ll be out of it! Jeb still hasn’t seen Becky in her wedding dress, no one has delivered toasts that make people blush, nor have any first dances been danced. We hope you all will be able to join us in November to celebrate with all you got!

The Proposal

March 7, 2020

I told my parents in August of 2019 that Becky was the one for me. I found the ring that felt like Becky in January of 2020. It was a beautiful pink diamond set in a pear shape. The ring was unique but was tied to tradition. It was the perfect symbol of Becky, to me. I asked Becky’s parents if they had any objections to us getting married in Feb of 2020. Coffee has been a major source of bonding in our relationship. We have a daily ritual of enjoying a cup together. I typically make a French press for us both and it’s a small act I love to do for her. Some of our beginning dates were over coffee. Road trips and errands often are waylaid by a run into a shop. I wanted to propose over coffee. The morning I wanted to propose, Becky asked to make a run to a shop instead of our normal French press. I went along with that plan and we sat in Craftwork. I’m surprised Becky didn’t hear my heart beating in the shop. Walking back home, I nudged Becky towards having another cup of coffee. She finally asked for our normal press. I had to convince her to sit down in the living room so I could actually fish the ring out of hiding and get staged. When I brought the coffee out to Becky on saucers, she immediately knew something was up. I was so emotional that I barely stammered out the question, asking Becky if she would do me the honor of marrying me. (I excitedly squeaked out a “yes!” between “oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH”es. ) We kept the engagement to ourselves for a whole day. We ate an exquisite restaurant, spent the night in an extravagant hotel, and didn’t tell a soul (except for the hotel staff who celebrated us with a bottle of Champagne). Keeping that moment to ourselves for a whole 24 hours was my favorite part of the whole process. It’s a block of time we will both forever cherish.

Our First Date

February 2018

Our first date was at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth. We spent the afternoon determining when Art Had Gone Too Far and continuing our Hinge conversations about photography, traveling, and being only children. We kept the date going at a local beer garden where we both bonded over new beginnings. Jeb had recently moved to the “big city” from Lusby, Maryland and Becky had recently launched her own design business after a mini-sabbatical abroad. Becky’s First Impressions of Jeb Jeb had a warm personality and a refreshing sense of style. He welcomed me with a hug and smile, and I instantly knew he’d be a relaxed, yet fun person to get to know. He overcame what was an odd Hinge profile… Jeb’s First Impressions of Becky I knew immediately she was an incredibly sweet and genuine person. She was also attractively nervous which made the fact that I was sweating my ass off because of nerves feel okay. She was unconsciously putting me at ease and making me comfortable in who I am from the beginning.
