It’s a Love Story, Baby Just Say Yesssss

The Eras of Us

We met online (of course) and quickly discovered that we had lived in multiple places at the same time over the years- Oregon, the east coast, but had never crossed paths. We like to think that there was an invisible string, one single thread of gold, tying us to each other. Jeanette asked Kayla to meet in person less than a week after talking. Our first date, March 1, we went to Burrowing Owl, one of Jeanette’s favorites. Within minutes of meeting at Kayla’s, we both knew we had something different. At dinner our waitress sat across from us and asked how long we’d been together. We both laughed, having met minutes prior. After our first date we knew we were done dating others and a little over a week after that date, at Burrowing Owl, Jeanette gave Kayla a note asking to check Yes or No, would she be her girlfriend. Within two weeks of meeting we knew that with each other we had found the kind of love you only find once in a lifetime. Early on, Jeanette made a playlist for Kayla and Kayla loved Taylor Swifts "New Years Day”, coming up with the idea of getting married then, even though we were not yet engaged. Kayla’s favorite lyric in the song reads “Don’t read the last page/ I stay when it’s hard or it’s wrong or we’re making mistakes.” Jeanette then asked Kayla to meet her three “monstahs”, Jacks, Gemma and Dru. The kids instantly fell in love with “Kaywa” and were happy to have her in their lives. During family votes Jeanette was always outvoted, the kids choosing a sleepover at Kayla’s over going home. And like lesbians do, three months to the day of meeting, on June 1, Kayla proposed to Jeanette at Garden of the Gods. She made it special, including Jeanette’s best friend Emily and her twins who were visiting from the East Coast, Jeanette’s kids, and Kayla’s best friend Shawnee who generously photographed the proposal. Emily set up lunch after at GotG Resort, where we agreed would be the perfect location for our wedding. A few weeks later we got matching tattoos with “mine” written in each others handwriting based on a Taylor Swift song. Over Kayla’s birthday weekend Jeanette surprised Kayla with a ring and proposed to her at Kayla’s favorite CO location, Grand Lake. We went back there for Jeanette’s birthday and again got matching tattoos based on a Taylor Swift song. Over the course of our relationship Kayla took Jeanette all over CO- Garden of the Gods, Grand Lake, Estes Park. Jeanette came up with Family Funday Sundays where we explore new hikes and adventures with Jacks, Gemma and Dru. Because we met on the 1st of March, we started a tradition of giving each other gifts on the first of every month. It’s a reminder to celebrate each other, our love and the relationship we continue to build. We have a lot of fun “traditions” that we’ve been doing in the time we’ve been together. Besides Family Sundays and celebrating the 1st of every month, Jeanette drives to Kayla’s every Saturday night when she lands, no matter how late, and Kayla always has a drink and food waiting. Sunday mornings we pick up the kids together and get ourselves energy drinks and the kids snacks. We make sure to talk every day, even when Jeanette is out of the country. Jeanette is officially a Lions fan, and Kayla is officially a Swiftie. Seven months into the relationship Kayla convinced Jeanette something she swore she would never do. The family adopted a dog, Marte. Jeanette voted no, but as all of our family votes go, Kayla and the kids beat her out. (Secretly, Jeanette is always ok with losing the family votes, she wins either way.) In October we took our first plane ride/adventure together, to Oregon where Kayla grew up. Jeanette met Kayla’s family and friends and they enjoyed exploring the Oregon coast. It has been a short crazy ride, full of love, laughter and growth. We are excited to share our special day with those we love. Thank you for coming to our website and being a part of our love story.
