Our Story

Let's Make This a Forever Thing!

Every love story has its own rhythm—some begin with fireworks, others with quiet timing. Ours started during a season of change, loss, and rediscovery. I (Jeanaya) had just lost my grandmother—my best friend and the woman who helped shape me. Not long after, my only child was heading off to college in another state. I found myself standing in the middle of two major life transitions: grieving the past and preparing for an emptier future. To fill the silence, I took a job bartending at a local neighborhood bar. I wasn’t looking for love—I was just trying to stay busy and keep my heart from sinking too deep. But sometimes, love finds you when you’re not searching for it. On my very first shift, Shawn was there. A regular, relaxed and observant. The owner later told me he couldn’t stop staring. What’s even more poetic is that he happened to be sitting next to my mother—and without knowing who she was, he leaned over and told her, “She’s beautiful.” We laugh about that moment now, but looking back, it felt like divine timing. What followed wasn’t some whirlwind romance—it was real, layered, and sometimes messy. We were both carrying the weight of life and had grown used to protecting ourselves. Our egos got in the way more than once. There were moments we didn’t think it would work because we were both so strong-minded, so used to being in control of our own space, our own emotions. But what’s meant for you doesn’t always arrive perfectly packaged. Despite everything, we kept choosing each other. We found comfort in our conversations, laughter in the little things, and peace in simply being around one another. Our connection grew from genuine friendship—we liked each other, not just loved each other. We became partners in healing, in joy, and in everyday life. And just when I thought I had surprised him… he surprised me right back. I had planned a surprise 50th birthday party for Shawn—something thoughtful, filled with family and friends to celebrate the incredible man he is. I poured my heart into every detail to show him how loved he truly is. But he had his own plan. Right in the middle of his celebration, surrounded by the people who had witnessed our journey, Shawn flipped the moment and made it unforgettable. He called for everyone’s attention, smiled that familiar, knowing smile—and proposed. At the party I had planned for him. I was stunned. Moved. Speechless. But in my heart, I knew—this was exactly how it was supposed to happen. It wasn’t grand or over-the-top. It was personal, honest, and so us. Now every time I think of that night, I smile. Because it captured everything we are-unpredictable, heartfelt, full of life, and always showing up for one another in unexpected, beautiful ways. I said yes to the man who helped me rediscover life after loss. The man who challenged me, softened me, made me laugh again. The man who sat beside my mother on day one and saw me for exactly who I was. Because even though I'd given him a celebration, he gave me something even bigger-a promise. A promise to keep showing up, keep growing with me, and keep choosing this love that we've built from the ground up. Now we’re here—standing in a new season, ready to begin the next chapter of our story. Thank you for being part of our journey. We can’t wait to celebrate this love with all of you.
