The Facts: We met in a Marine Science class at Lexington High School in 2015. We did not become close friends until August 8th, 2017. Jazzmyn’s 2015 POV: Woah! Hello!! Who is the cutie in the sling? Why does he look so grumpy? As time went on and courage grew, I came to find he was not as mean as his RBF. One of my bravest days was working up the courage to ask him to be my lab partner. As the class came to an end, I thought any chance I had would too—until August 6th, 2017, when Santiago reached out to me to catch up and hang out. On August 8th, I woke up like a kid on Christmas morning. I had such a full and busy day that I was actually LATE to the hangout. This was my first witness of his saintlike patience. We sat outside my grandparents’ house on their front porch and talked about nothing and everything. I started falling for him pretty instantly. It felt like we were made of the same stuff. Our love for adventure and the way our values aligned made me know that I never wanted to have a life without him in it. I am so grateful that I will never have to. Fifteen-year-old Jazz would be so gobsmacked that she’s marrying the cutie in the sling from Mrs. Kennerly’s class. Santiago’s POV: When I first met Jazz in Marine Science class back in 2015, I noticed right away how genuine and kind she was. At the time, life felt busy and full of distractions, but two years later, I was lucky enough to reconnect with her. That summer evening on her grandparents’ porch, talking and laughing for hours, it was clear we shared the same values and outlook on life. I felt an instant ease and connection I had never known before, and on that very day, I realized our souls had been tied together all along. That realization was the most extraordinary moment of my life up to that point. On November 29th, 2017, we were officially together. Not long after, on a drive home from dropping Jazz off at her grandparents’ house, I had another very special realization: I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I feel incredibly blessed to call her my best friend, my partner, and soon, my wife.
