We were both property managers attending a conference in Harrisonburg, VA for work. On the second day of the conference, Russ started passing me notes during a class and we ended up getting lunch together. Next thing we knew, we were late for our afternoon class. So, we decided to skip it and go to the hotel gym where we sat on excercise balls and talked for hours. We both made quite the impression and continued to speak even after returning to our homes that were three and a half hours apart. Less than a month later, we met in Richmond for our first date.
We were on what I believed to be an ordinary couples trip to a cabin in Blue Ridge, GA when Russ popped the question. The cabin we rented for the weekend had a beautiful view of the mountains from the covered deck featuring a stone fireplace, perfect for a weekend of snow. It was on Friday, we had just returned from an amazing dinner and we were all taking pictures together under the stars when a car pulled up to our cabin. It looked like my mom’s car, but we were 9 hours away in Georgia so there was no way, right? Wrong! As I stare at my mom and stepdad getting out of the car, my face is flooded with a look of extreme confusion. Meanwhile, Russ has made his way to down to one knee behind me. Then I turn around, realizing what’s happening, and Russ begins the most darling nervous rant about all the things around us and I cut in, “Are you going to ask me?” He does and I say YES!
