Their love story began long before they ever called it love. It all started ten years ago, when Jazmin was the new girl at Elmwood Park. She didn’t know anyone—until one day in science class, the girl sitting next to Jazmin was dating a boy named Jonathan. That “middle school relationship” lasted about a day, but the face was put in Jazmin’s mind. Two years later, as fate would have it, Jazmin walked into her sophomore year history class and found herself seated next to that same Jonathan. Jonathan, the class clown, was always cracking jokes and making Jazmin laugh—often enough to get himself moved across the room. One of them was always in a relationship, or they were just too focused on preserving the deep friendship they had built. Through high school, they bonded over classes, exchanged birthday gifts, and spent countless hours laughing together. They were inseparable. Their connection grew even stronger in college, when Jazmin ended up attending Montclair State—coincidentally or perhaps providentially—the same school as Jonathan. Though they never labeled their friendship anything more, everyone around them could see what was growing. Then one quiet night changed everything. While watching movies at Jonathan’s house with friends, a late-night heart-to-heart turned into something more—Jonathan kissed Jazmin and confessed the feelings he had been holding onto. She was stunned, unsure whether to risk the friendship they had built. But as the weeks passed, she couldn’t deny the same feelings rising in her. On December 1st, 2020, around 11 p.m., after his shift at UPS, Jonathan stopped by the Walgreens where he bought her a teddy bear, flowers and chocolates and asked Jazmin to be his girlfriend. But even as love blossomed, they both felt something missing. That changed when they attended Jazmin’s stepmom Ale’s baptism. What began as a simple act of support became a spiritual turning point. That day, both Jonathan and Jazmin felt something they couldn’t explain—an overwhelming encounter with the Holy Spirit. They kept returning to church, and slowly, God became the center of their relationship. With God guiding them, their love transformed. They began to love each other more selflessly, with grace, patience, and a renewed purpose. Their bond deepened not just emotionally, but spiritually. God revealed healing they didn’t know they needed, and gave their relationship a new foundation—one built not only on friendship, but on faith. On August 20th, 2024, Jonathan proposed. And for Jazmin, there was no doubt—he was the one. The silly boy from history class had grown into a man of God, and she was ready to walk with him into the next chapter of their story. Now, as they prepare to marry, Jonathan and Jazmin know that everything they’ve experienced—every laugh, every trial, every step—was guided by God’s perfect timing.
