How We Met

Blind Date on the Bay

Our friends David and Lauren set us up on blind date on August 14th, 2018. Although the original plan was to kayak together with them on a double date, Piper and Lauren somehow managed to slip away, saying they had some "work to finish." Hence, Keith and I spent some quality time alone together in Dungeness Bay where we ended up floating in our kayaks and talking for four hours, before finding our way back to shore and exchanging numbers. Needless to say, it was a great first date and the start of an amazing journey! (P.S. Thank you Lauren and David for setting us up!!!)

The Proposal

Rings and Resiliency

On October 26, 2019 Keith and I went to Olympic National Park and hiked up Mount Storm King. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, this is a trail of mostly switchbacks, gaining 2000 feet in just over 2 miles, and involving a series of ropes along the unmaintained trail at the top of the steep mountain, which leads to the lookout point. Still, the views at the top are absolutely spectacular and totally worth the climb! (In my opinion, that is. You can ask Keith about his opinion at the wedding.) When we finally reached the top, we took a break and ate a snack on the cliff edge while some other hikers enjoyed the views. After waiting about half an hour, we finally had the spot to ourselves and we took in the amazing sights of Lake Crescent, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Vancouver Island and Olympic National Park. As we sat and enjoyed God's creation, Keith pulled out a scrapbook that he had made, which featured our time together and the things he appreciated about me. On the last page, he wrote a very romantic message. As I read the last page, Keith had his hand in his pocket, about to present the ring, when a family and their young children came up behind us- very loudly, with little regard for personal space. After waiting a few minutes for privacy, with no luck, we finally decided to move to a different spot on the mountain. I asked Keith to put the scrapbook back in his backpack so we could safely get back down the ropes. As he turned to put the book in the bag, the ring fell out of his pocket, and literally fell off the cliff! Keith tried to go after it (twice) but the terrain was too treacherous, and I reminded him I'd rather have my fiancé in one piece than the ring. Keith and our friend David went back to look for the ring later, without success, which led to our friend David setting up a GoFundMe page to help us replace the ring. Thank you to Piper and to everyone who donated- we now have a new ring and are we so thankful for everyone's support!

COVID-19 Wedding Update

Our Decision

Dear Friends and Family, Thank you so much for your support during this crazy COVID-19 season! We appreciate your patience as we have been trying to decide what to do about our wedding ceremony, given the frequently changing restrictions in our state. At this time, we are still planning to get married on our original date, but we have had to limit our number of guests and put safety measures in place. We will have a smaller gathering with mainly family in attendance. We hope to celebrate with all of you in the future, once COVID-19 restrictions lift a bit more. We are truly saddened to not have everyone else join us, but please understand that this decision was made with everyone's health and safety in mind. We are sending out letters to everyone with more information, so please check your mailbox. Thank you for your understanding! Love, Jaysa and Keith
