It all started on the first day of high school in our 9th grade Integrated class. Matthew saw the love of his life walk in and sit diagonally to him. He then texted his friend about how beautiful this new girl (who was obviously Jaylin) was. For the next month, Matthew tried to “wheel” Jaylin. He finally convinced her enough to exchange numbers. For the rest of the year, Matthew stayed persistent, and we eventually had a “thing” that consisted of typical 9th grade cringey flirting. Then, life moved on and their friendship fizzled out. We both went to college to take on this crazy thing called life. Time went by, and Matthew found himself in a predicament. In July of 2023, Matthew was on an urgent search for quality mud volleyball teammates. After deep thought, Matthew remembered Jaylin used to play with Sarah (his sister) back in high school. On a Hail Mary attempt, Matthew texted Jaylin for the first time in 6 years, asking if she’d be interested in a mud volleyball tournament with teammates to spare. Luckily for him, she and her friends were willing to participate in an Ault, CO mud volleyball tournament. Little did she know, Matthew—in jorts, a cut-off, and cowboy boots—would sweep her off her feet at 7 a.m. the morning of the tournament. Though they didn’t win the tournament, something sparked between them. The weekend extended into multiple lake hangouts with friends and family. From then on, the two of them made it clear they were interested in one another. Weeks later, they participated in another mud volleyball tournament, had many more fun weekends together getting to know each other, and eventually decided to make it official on September 4th, 2023 as a couple! The following months were filled with lots of karaoke, family time, and many memories created together. In July of 2024, they decided to move into their first apartment together. Later, in March of 2025, Matthew worked up the courage to get down on one knee and ask Jaylin to marry him. She, of course, said yes!! The following months were full of traveling and epic adventures together. One summer day, while driving home from the lake, Matthew woke Jaylin up from her regularly scheduled nap and said, “I think I found our house.” Sure enough, it was their forever home—the one they had been hoping and dreaming of! They moved in just a few weeks later in September of 2025. They have since been delighted to fill their new home with gatherings of friends and family, new furniture, and a new dog! Matt and Jaylin got their first dog together, named Marty, in December of 2025. He is nothing short of the sweetest, fluffiest, teddy bear-like pup you’ll ever see! Matt and Jaylin can’t wait to spend their special day with you all on June 26th and create memories that will last a lifetime!
