Jaylin grew up knowing Grady's dad, Jeff, who was one of her favorite ministers that she listened to at youth camp throughout her childhood summers—so she knew of Grady since he was Jeff’s son. At one point, Jeff had asked Jaylin how she was doing in regard to her relationship status, hoping that she was available. At that time, she was still in a long-term relationship (let’s note Jeff was also good friends with the bride’s dad). Grady was hardly ever around, so Jaylin never thought of him being in her future, let alone Jeff being her future father-in-law too. On the other hand, Grady had no clue Jaylin existed until he came across a social media post and asked his friends if Jay Davis (the bride's dad) had a twin daughter. Time passed, and one Saturday evening, while Jaylin was eating dinner with her parents at a local restaurant—the good ol’ Cracker Barrel—she ran into Jeff. Jeff wasn’t able to get home that night due to his road being blocked off, so he decided to eat dinner there. Surprised to see him, Jay invited Jeff to join them. Jeff and Jay caught up, laughing and exchanging jokes and ideas on sermons. Meanwhile, Jeff checked in on Jaylin again, asking her about her recent life changes. She updated him on her move back home to Berea, her college studies, and, of course, her relationship status. After informing him that her previous relationship had ended, Jeff told Jaylin, “You don’t owe anyone an explanation,” and then added, “Well, you know I have a son. He’s a good one—a basket case, but a good one. You ought to send him a message.” Jaylin chuckled and replied, “Oh really? So, you’re expecting me to send him a message? I’m not the type of girl to initiate a conversation, ha-ha, but I guess we’ll see.” Jeff made sure to remind her a few more times about Grady as they walked out the door that night. Monday arrived, and Jaylin received a message from Grady on Messenger: “I’m a little hurt… I keep waiting on you to text me. I’m just kidding. Dad talked to you all the other day, lol, and he said that he told you to message me… Dad is a little wild.” After Jaylin responded to the surprise, Grady then told her that if she was interested, they should go out sometime and get to know each other better. He added, “[...] He did say you were coming out of a relationship, though, so I would understand if that’d be too soon. I think you’re cute and just figured I’d give you a holler. Nothing wrong with getting to know each other, you know!” After exchanging messages every day, they hit it off well. They started sending audio messages, and Grady eventually asked her spontaneously to a movie one evening. On their next date, they planned a whole day of thrifting. As Valentine's Day approached, Grady dropped off some flowers and comically gave Jaylin a birthday card that told her how he felt. The rest is history.
