Sangeet

LOWER TAIBAGH

Attire: Festive indian

This musical night is a celebration of the union of not only the couple but the bonding of both families and friends. To experience the sangeet you need to join in on the dance floor and move your hips to the desi beat.

Mandvo (Jay's family)

This auspicious event is the time where the wedding mandap (altar) is ceremoniously blessed ahead of the main event. This is a special time, where and prayers are offered to bring nothing but positivity and prosperity to the celebrations and beyond. Families get together to bless the happy couple. The mandap is represented by planting a wooden stick called the “manekstambh”, and blessings are offered whilst remembering God and all of ancestral figures from both families.

Devkarya (Vaidehi's Family)

Devkarya is an auspicious occasion of the wedding, it is the ritual in which the families extend the wedding invitation to God and invoke their blessings for the wedding festivites.

Haldi

The Haldi ceremony is one of the most fun parts of an Indian wedding. The bride and groom are ceremoniously adorned with a special turmeric blend all over their face, hands and more. Traditionally, this represents not only a bright start to the festivities but is also a sign of good luck and purity. As family members come to apply the turmeric paste to the bride and groom as a way of imparting their blessings onto the happy couple. And, whilst doing that, get them right on the face!

Safa ceremony with high tea

5:00 pm - 5:30 pm

UPPER JAIBAGH POOLSIDE

The safa, or wedding turban, is a piece of cloth that is wound around the men's heads

BARAAT PROCESSION

5:30 pm - 6:15 pm

UPPER JAIBAGH GATE

A baraat is a celebratory wedding procession for the groom involving live music and dancing.

Hindu Wedding

6:30 pm - 11:00 pm

JANANA CHOWK

Attire: Traditional Indian

The bride and groom are to be united in holy matrimony as per the Vedic Hindu traditions!
