The year is 2020. James and I met in the most romantic place imaginable: our favorite bookstore off Hwy 183 and Anderson Mill. On a random Sunday, we struck up a conversation that somehow lasted nine hours. Yes—nine. At some point, the bookstore employees probably considered charging us rent. We yapped the night away, completely losing track of time, and made plans to see each other again the very next week. We quickly bonded over two very important things: our shared childhood love of frozen Dino Nugs (the elite nugget of the 90’s) and navigating a brand-new phase of life in the heart of Austin, Texas, in our mid-to-late twenties. Nothing says romance like self-discovery, nostalgia, and mildly chaotic life transitions. On our second date, James showed up with a gift: socks covered in broccoli. I had mentioned—casually—that I loved broccoli. That was it. Game over. Ring the bells. When a man hears “I love broccoli” and responds with broccoli socks, you know you’ve found your person. James listens with his whole heart and gives gifts that mean something, and that’s something I admired—and treasured—right away. We are so incredibly grateful for everyone here celebrating with us. Thank you for being part of our story, our joy, and our love. We hope our journey inspires you with laughter, positivity, and maybe a renewed appreciation for novelty socks. With love, James & Shay #OuiDoPettyjohn 🥦💍🦖
