Most people say that when they met their spouse, it was love at first sight, but for us, this was not the case. See, we met in the midst of covid with social distancing and mask mandates. This made it hard to truly see someone. We met during Sara’s junior year and Jaxon’s senior year. Since Jaxon was a senior in a class of juniors, he tended to isolate himself from the class. Sara took notice of this and took a special interest in sparking a conversation with him. As time progressed, we got the opportunity to sit next to each other and from then on, there was no keeping us apart. From talking sometimes in class- even when we were not supposed to be, playing rummy with homemade decks of cards in class, and even talking in our own sign language from across the room - we quickly became very close. Eventually, on Halloween night in 2020, we officially started dating.
To understand why Jaxon proposed the way he did, we should first talk about our first “unofficial” date. Before we became official- boyfriend and girlfriend, we had scheduled a movie hangout at Jaxon’s house. On this unofficial date we shared McDonald’s and watched Herbie: Fully Loaded- the Lindsay Lohan one. Jaxon decided he wanted to pay homage to this “date” as well as the many special occasions that have been celebrated in Brown County. So, he set up a drive-in-style movie date with the hills of Brown County in the background. He also focused on Sara’s love for Christmas and decorated the car with Christmas decor. When we arrived in Brown County, it did not take long for Jaxon to get on one knee and ask Sara to marry him. After Sara said yes, we celebrated by eating McDonald’s and watching Herbie: Fully Loaded at the same spot in Brown County where we have celebrated many occasions.
