Tlaquepaque

Tlaquepaque, Jal., Mexico

Take a stroll across the Main Street in Tlaquepaque to see art and Mexican crafts. Definitely worth a visit. If you’re hungry make sure to stop at El Patio or Restaurante Casa Luna for a snack. If you get there on time you might see some Mariachis at el Abajeño as well.

Colonia Americana

Up-and-coming and hipstery neighborhood in Guadalajara. We recommend you start at Mercado Mexico and grab a coffee in Palrealito and then walk down Avenida La Paz to do some window (or actual) shopping in the various boutiques in the area. Albergue transitório is another boutique exhibiting pieces from Mexican designers. It’s worth a visit if you’re into that kinda stuff but we don’t recommend you go there walking. Best to catch an Uber.

El centro - Historic Downtown

You can’t miss Guadalajara’s historic downtown area. We recommend you start the visit at Hospício Cabañas - a hospice turned cultural center & museum - to see the famous murals by Jose Clemente Orozco. Then make your way up to the Catedral by walking through Paseo Hospício. You can make a quick stop at Palacio de Gobierno, admire the architecture of Teatro Degollado & the multiple plazas in the area. As with any downtown area, it’s not the safest area in the city but you should be fine if you don’t stride too far away from the main streets and keep your belongings on a short leash. If you’re feeling very adventurous you could stop for a drink at Cantina La Fuente - the oldest one in Guadalajara. It’s kinda raunchy, so not for the faint of heart (haha!)

Tequila

If you come a little early to, or stay after, the wedding, we highly recommend you make some time to make a trip to Tequila. Yes, the drink is named after this town where the drink originated from. It’s a 1.5 hour drive from Guadalajara and you can tour a few distilleries (we recommend Jose Cuervo) and eat before coming back to the city.

Bosque Los Colomos

3200 Calle El Chaco, Guadalajara, Jal. 44630, Mexico

An activity for the fit, and the not so fit… If you love running, or walking, make a trip to Bosque los Colomos, the Central Park of Guadalajara (haha! Jk), for a quick workout. Make sure to stop by the Japanese garden if you do make it there.
