In 2019, we met through our older brothers, Walker and Noah, who roomed at Wheaton College together. We were only friends then, and did not see each other often. We didn't start dating until two years later, halfway through freshman year at Wheaton. For our first unofficial date, we went snowboarding and Jasper taught me how to snowboard. We didn't expect to start dating that day, but that night after we finished snowboarding, we decided it might be a good idea to try it out! So, January 23rd of 2022, we became official.
Jasper and I spent the summer on Washington Island with his family tent camping on the Schuchardt's land. At the beginning of the summer, I was hoping and expecting to get engaged on the island since we were talking about a December wedding. However, halfway through the summer, he solemnly told me to not get my hopes up for it happening on the island. I certainly shed some tears at this and slowly began to let it go. Our last weekend on the island, he and I woke up early for the sunrise, had breakfast at a coffee shop, and rock climbed down a cliff to get to Boyer's Bluff, a private rock beach and Jasper's favorite spot on the island. We went to our spot where we (Jasper really) had created a large limestone loveseat. After walking for a bit, Jasper says, "With all this talk of love, there needs to be commitment." I, totally clueless, barely noticed what he said and continued to blabber on. I realized he was behind me, and I turned around to see him getting down on one knee on our loveseat, pulling out the ring, and asking if I would marry him. Completely shocked, I did not say anything for a moment and then quickly said, "yes!" After the proposal, I wept, we swam in Lake Michigan, and went back to camp to tell the family.
