Once upon a time, in a world known for magical forests, farmers’ markets and lifelong friendships, there was a theater named Totem Pole Playhouse. It was here that Jason (who was quickly nicknamed "Stretch" by a director who believed that his arms had no limit) and Rachel (known for her infectious laughter and exuberant spirit) met and shared their first backstage kiss. During their summer in the woods, our protagonists partook in all the Totem Pole traditions, leaving with their hearts full of happy memories and their legs full of mosquito bites. They thought this summer romance would be fleeting, and separately went in search of work and adventure away from the small Pennsylvania town. Their careers took them to Louisville, KY (on separate occasions) and finally each landed in New York City. One stormy night they met for dinner in Manhattan. Rachel showed up completely drenched, but the meal was full of easy conversation and laughter. Jason insisted on paying, like the true gentleman he is, and Rachel was completely surprised. When parting ways at the subway he kissed her, a true "Princess Bride" kiss. We pick the story back up on a hot June night a few years later. Jason took Rachel to the Empire State Building which was bustling with summer tourists and overeager selfie-photographers. Rachel knew something was up because Jason kept putting his hand in his pocket - an unusual gesture for him. They spent three hours wandering in circles around the building, but the moment was not right. Leaving the Empire State Building, Rachel was positive that she had misinterpreted the night. Back in the privacy of their home, Jason got down on one knee with ring in hand. He asked Rachel to live happily ever after with him. The rest, as they say, is history.
