Some History The Brooklyn Grange is an active Farm located on the roof top of one of Brooklyn Navy Yard's buildings. From the early 1810s through the 1960s, The Brooklyn Navy Yard was an active shipyard for the United States Navy. During the War of 1812, the Brooklyn Navy Yard repaired and retrofitted more than one hundred ships.
