McKenna and Jason met during their junior year of high school in Mrs. Johnston’s Honors Physics class. They fell for each other quickly, spending the next two years side by side through SAT study sessions, Friday night football games, and after-school McDonald’s dates. Jason would visit McKenna during her shifts at the local In-N-Out Burger, and the two often found themselves at Del Valle Lake—the spot of their first date and Jason’s summer job at the kayak rental. For college, Jason headed to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo while McKenna attended UC Santa Barbara. With just about 100 miles between them (a 1.5-hour drive or a 2.5-hour train ride), they took turns visiting each other on weekends. Together they would explore local beaches, hikes, and all of the newfound freedom college life has to offer. After graduation, Jason landed a job at Lam Research in Fremont, CA. McKenna soon moved in, found a job of her own in the Bay Area, and together they built a life there over the next four years as they launched their careers. After about 8.5 years together, Jason proposed to McKenna while on vacation on Maui, HI at Haleakala National Park.
