On a rainy Friday, August 11, 2017, Jared (Jason’s former co-worker) and Grace Meyer hosted a housewarming party at their new home in Washington, D.C. Neither Kellan or Jason initially planned to be at the party, but serendipitously, it ended up being the night they met their future spouse. Kellan didn’t know many people at the party, but she didn’t let that deter her. She struck up a conversation with a British fellow who, coincidentally was also Jason’s former roommate, So, when Jason walked in, it wasn’t too hard for him to introduce himself to the cute new blond girl. They chatted about how they had both studied abroad in London during college, with Jason explaining why he was wearing an Arsenal jersey (the London soccer team they now both adamantly support). They broke off with a couple of other people to play Mario Kart on the TV. Kellan still thought Jason was cool even though he should have been more humble in victory. A couple days after the party, Jason messaged Kellan on Facebook to see if she wanted to go out for drinks after work sometime. It took Kellan a while to respond, but she eventually agreed and they set a date for Tuesday, August 22. They met at Continental Pool Lounge (which is not as seedy as it sounds) in the Rosslyn neighborhood of Arlington. There, Kellan and Jason swapped journalism stories and bonded. At the end of the night, Kellan had to go back to work to cover a political rally. Jason held her hand as they walked together for a couple blocks, and the bride-and-groom-to-be shared their first kiss on the romantic streets of Rosslyn. The rest is history.
In the midst of a global pandemic that had delayed or cancelled countless weddings, graduations and other celebrations, It was important for Kellan and Jason to have a wedding, no matter how small. After all, marriage is about being there for each other in good times and bad, in sickness and in health.... And so, at 5:00 PM on a gorgeous, hot summer day in Gloucester, VA, Kellan and Jason were married in a small ceremony with their closest friends and family present. Just 25 people attended the ceremony and small dinner reception in Kellan's Aunt and Uncle's beautiful backyard. Their pastor from their local church in Clarendon, VA officiated the ceremony and Kellan and Jason's best friends and family stood by their side as they said "I do." Although it wasn't what they had originally planned, their wedding was even more perfect than they had imagined. Love can't be cancelled.
