Jason and Coleen met through mutual friends. A friend tried to set up Coleen with Jason's best friend Quincy. Well, that didn't work out obviously. However, Coleen really liked their friend group so she chose to stick around. They became friends, bonding over nerd hobbies such as board games, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, Pokemon Go, and so on. Eventually they found out they both loved Jesus too. Jason and Coleen had no intentions of dating, but little did they know...
Jason and Coleen started dating on February 18, a month before Coleen's birthday. It was the day after Coleen introduced Jason to her Uncle Jim, which was a really special day for Coleen. Poor Jason had no idea what he was getting into...what a lucky guy. Coleen's Uncle Jim texted her this message later on February 21, "Hi my sweet niece. Jason looks like a pretty impressive guy but there's a million of them around you, so don't get serious right away with one and get broken hearted. In 2 years if you guy's are still together then he must be the right one.” Well Uncle Jim, you were right, we made it! Miss you.
During a whirlwind of Christmas festivities with both Coleen and Jason's family, Jason finally decided to pop the question! He literally decided to ask as they were about to leave for dinner with the Scarrow family. Here is how the conversation started. Jason asked "Are you sure you can do this for the rest of your life?" Coleen said "Of course, I love it!" Jason said "Well then I have a question to ask you." Coleen exclaimed "Really?!?!?!" Many people, including Coleen, expected the proposal to involve some sort of game. Let's just say for a year, Jason joked that when he proposed, Coleen would have to pick between four different boxes, and if she picked wrong, the proposal would be delayed a month. It became so convincing that this is how the rest of the proposal finished. Coleen asked "Are you going to make me pick?", and then began to cry. Jason chuckled and said "No." Then Jason got down on one knee, and simply asked "Will you marry me?" It was simple and perfect. The best part is that we got to see our families afterward and celebrate the great news! Now here we are getting married!
The pandemic came and derailed most plans like our original wedding date on May 30, 2020, which was lame, but who can plan for a pandemic? We decided to postpone our wedding until September 2020 in hopes we could have the wedding we imagined. In the meantime, we decided to get married anyway and celebrate later with everyone. Getting married early in a pandemic is tricky just so you know! It eventually led to us thinking we got married through the mail, which we found out, isn’t all the way legal...
We found away to get legally married! On this day, we had a very small COVID-19 friendly ceremony of 6 total people in the lobby of Des Moines Schools! We had a mini reception in the parking lot of our apartment, which included Marco’s pizza, a mini wedding, lawn chairs, and hand sanitizer.
With more information known about COVID-19, we decided to have a formal wedding with immediate family, close family friends, and our wedding party. It’s not what we originally imagined, but we had a blast celebrating our marriage.
We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone! We hope to see you there!
