Jason and I have known each other since high school, but didn't become close friends until college. We started spending most of our time together our senior year at Auburn and started dating about a month before graduation. After over 2 years of traveling back and forth every weekend to see each other, things got a lot easier - and a lot happier - when we decided to move to the same city.
Right before the pandemic forced us all into our homes indefinitely, we had several of our closest friends visiting us in Raleigh, NC for the weekend. Jason and our good friends, Zac and Josh, had put together a slideshow of their recent trip to Iceland and were very adamant that we watch it all together that night (I was the only one not picking up on context clues). The slideshow ended with a video showing the Icelandic coast that panned to a group of rocks that the boys had arranged to spell out "Marry me?" - I, completely shocked, turned around to see Jason down on one knee. It was beautiful, intimate, and the perfect ending to a great weekend. 2020 may have sucked, but getting engaged was definitely the highlight of our year!
