How We Met

8.12.11

In the summer of 2011, Julia planned a trip to the Poconos with ten friends. One of her friends wanted to invite one more guy named Jason to the trip. Her affinity for meeting new people and even numbers compelled her to say yes. That weekend Jason impressed Julia with his display of strength at whitewater rafting, and Julia charmed Jason with her wit while playing board games. A couple of holiday potlucks, birthday parties, dance raves, funny texts, and two years later... they decided to make it official!

The Proposal

6.22.18

Jason began planning the long-overdue proposal months before the day. A couple of days every summer since they started dating, Jason and Julia would wake up absurdly early to wait in Central Park for tickets to Shakespeare in the Park. Knowing this would be a deeply personal way to ask Julia to marry him, Jason was ready to lie, sneak, and beg to get them on stage. Fortunately, the kind people at the Public Theater were all too happy to help make it happen. Everything came together just in time for the big day. Jason hid away the ring and joined Julia on line in the park and played it cool, really cool. When they got to the front of the line Jason asked about tours of the theater "he heard they were giving that day coincidentally”. A manager took them on a notably unrehearsed backstage tour which ended with an offering to take a picture on an empty stage in the empty theater. Just the two of them on stage, Jason dropped down to propose and Julia said yes!
