We’re getting married!!

We met during high school. I was a freshman and he was a senior. We would text here and there, but there was no relationship formed during this time. Cinco De Mayo weekend of 2019, I posted that I was single on twitter. Quel took that as an opportunity to reconnect with me. He got my snapchat and then my number, and we started back talking to each other. While I did not tell anyone that we were "talking", Arneshia (my classmate/friend), which is also Quel's God-sister, saw his name on my phone one time when we were studying. She didn't say anything to me, but she told Quel she saw his name and he then said "I'm going to make her mine." Arneshia told him "Don't hurt my friend." (Yall know I have had the worst of the worst luck when it comes to relationships!) So I salute her for saying that. As we started talking more and more, he expressed how he felt about becoming official. I expressed how my past relationships were and that I wasn't comfortable yet, so I made him wait :). A year later, June 4th, 2020, after he took me to get my nails and toes done, he officially asked me to become his girlfriend. Y'all I aint never cheesed so hard in my life and of course I said yes. We've been inseparable ever since..

When you think of someone getting proposed to, you think of flower petals, candles, LED marquee letter lights, balloons, family and friends waiting to capture the big moment... That's not how mine went. Quel wanted to propose during my birthday weekend while we were in Cancun at the beach, he said he had it all planned out to have someone recording the moment. As most of you knew, my nana was diagnosed with cancer in November 2023. Before that though, everytime Quel & I went to go visit her & my dad in springhill, she would always ask "when are y'all gone cut that cake?".. I'd always just say "it's coming grandma" (not knowing when he was going to actually propose. I called my grandma every night or she'd call me and even then she'd say "Yall need to go ahead and get married." I say that to say this, my grandma got sicker after she was diagnosed and she ended up at a facility on hospice. Quel didn't want to waste time because he wanted to see the look on my grandma's face when she saw the ring. On December 1st, 2024.. I was putting dishes away. I was in my night clothes, I had my bonnet on and Quel says to me "Do you want your birthday present early?" I look at him with my eyebrows raised like are you sure? He said yeah. I said okay. Yalllllllllllllll!!! This man got on ONE KNEE and I cried so hard cause you wanna marry me??????! I said yes so fast. We changed clothes, took pictures, and I said we gotta go see my nana TODAY. And when I finally showed her, it was the biggest smile I had ever seen on her face. My nana passed on December 24th, 2023, she was deeply loved and she'll definitely be missed. Even though she won't be here physically to see us "cut the cake", she'll definitely be there in spirit. BTW: I had people asking me if I knew he was going to propose cause I had my nails done. For the people that know me forreal, they know before I go on any trip especially for my birthday.. my hair, lashes, toes, and nails getting done! And I thank you :)
