Kevin & I met through a mutual friend during a probate for my sorority in Newport News, Virginia. It was in April of 2015. I was in school at Christopher Newport University while Kevin was in grad school at The College of William & Mary. If you ask Kev about the first time we met, he would swear that I didn't pay him any attention. After conversing a little that night, we said our goodbyes. We happen to run into each other later at his fraternity's party, which was hosted a few weeks later. On that night again, we only spoke when seeing each other and even then, I didn't recognize him. Finally, after some more exchanges and a few group chat interactions, he offered to come to a game I was officiating in Richmond and grab a slice of pizza afterwards. We’ve been going strong ever since then and now look where we are!
Since the start of our dating, we have been in a long-distance relationship with Jasmine living in Richmond, Virginia, and me in the Washington, D.C. area. Therefore, we only were able to see each other on the weekends. The weekend of Jasmine’s birthday in January, she came up to visit me. Not being a big birthday person, she told me she didn't want to do much, but little did she know I had other plans. Saturday, I had a day filled with activities, which started with us going on a private date to Art Jamz, a paint and sip spot. Following that, we went to a few other places before our “reservation at 6 p.m.” Or so she believed. Leaving our hotel, I told Jas that I had to go by the house to grab something I had forgotten. Once we arrived, she was so shocked to be greeted by all of her close friends and family for a surprise birthday party. When the time came to open presents, I was purposely last to give her my gift. I gave her a Louis Vuitton gift bag and inside the box was a shirt that read "Girlfriend" which was crossed out and underneath was the word "Fiance." It didn't register to her what was going on until she turned around and saw me down on one knee asking her to be my wife. & She said yes!
