The Link’s

It was the summer of 2009 I was heading into work at the Giant in the Brentwood area. In my commute it was time to change over lines from the green line to the red line. I then made it to Fort Totten station and waited for the next train to come. As I waited on the next train, I made a phone call to a friend to chat as I waited seconds later, a guy walked past. Making a comment I then thought was corny "You calling me?" he says and my response back to him was "BOY". I never made eye contact with him and proceeded with my phone conversation. Once the train arrived, I got onto the kart, and he did as well. I then found a seat and sat down, I finally looked up at him but more of a double take look up. I immediately reconsidered my smart remark to him once I made eye contact. I then would ask "what did you say?" knowing dang on well I heard him the first time. He noticed the double take because it wasn't too long before he sat behind me after I had asked him what he had said. As he sat behind me, we exchanged names, and I told him I was heading to work. And he replied "I just go off myself I work at Dunkin Donuts”. The train ride wasn’t too long for me. So I told him “Well I’m about to get off at the next stop” he then asked for my number. We exchanged numbers and that was the beginning of something we both didn’t expect. DeMarkus ended up going off to school shortly after we met, that summer we kept in contact on and off over the years. But it wasn’t until a winter night in 2016 that I received a text from him wanting to catch up and we’ve been running behind one another every since!!
