Her Story

This love story has two perspectives: his and MINE. MY version is the whole truth and nothing but the truth (lol); nonetheless, I believe that God orchestrates every moment for a reason. I don't remember who followed whom first (probably him, lol), but I first noticed David's graduation photos on Instagram after receiving his MBA and was inspired by his success as a Black man. Although I didn’t know him then, I felt compelled to congratulate him, but soon forgot about it. Later, my girl Yvonne (my matron of honor) and her hubby hosted a Super Bowl party during football season. I was focused on studying for my board exams and had taken a break from alcohol and social media, but I decided to join the festivities. While I was studying (yes, with my books in hand), I noticed two men entering. One caught my eye, but I didn’t think much of it. During a toast, I realized he wasn’t drinking either; we were the only two raising our glasses of water, which piqued my curiosity. Our next encounter was at another friend’s birthday party. David arrived fashionably late to the paint-and-sip event, sitting next to me with a bottle of Stella Rosa. He boasted about his painting skills, and I thought, “Who is this guy? So loud and wrong!” Lol The turning point came when I saw him post on Instagram about cupcakes from my favorite bakery. I commented, expressing my love for them and playfully suggesting he should share. He replied that he’d eaten them all (his sweet tooth is still a topic of discussion) but offered to take me out for more. I happily agreed, and that was the start of our journey together. Since then, we’ve explored seven countries, including my beloved second home, Ghana, and countless cities and shared milestones. I truly believe God brought David into my life as my perfect partner, destined to love and grow our family together. I can’t wait forever, and I love you. Mrs. Soon-to-be Addo

His Story

I can bet you that 9 out of 10 people have already read HER story first, so anything I say now will go through one ear and out the other. It's funny to say that it all started with an Instagram notification, but she has the story all wrong *shaking my head*. We met for the first time at my brother Jeff Badu’s (yes, he's a groomsman) annual Superbowl party. Upon arrival, I noticed a new glowing face in the Badu residence that caught my eye, but I kept it cool, calm, and collected. I did pick up on the fact that she was not participating in the festivities because she had her books and notepads, which I thought was interesting. The next time we met was at a mutual friend's birthday party, which I was on time for (actually, I was extremely late, like why you even show up late). I quickly found the closest unoccupied seat and made myself comfortable. To my surprise, I looked over, and it was that glowing face again (I’m like, God, are you telling me something?). The first time is considered luck; the second time could be a coincidence, right? Being late, I eagerly offered my libation gift to everyone to save face. The last and final encounters that started our beginning were first getting an Instagram notification and receiving a congratulations comment (more like emojis) for receiving my MBA degree. Like any young man in the 21st century, I clicked on the profile to inquire who it was from. I’m like, oh, she looks familiar. Is it that glowing face again? (God, I hear you!). A week or two passed, and I stumbled upon her Instagram story showcasing her record player, which I am a big fan of (shout to my pops for bringing us up on music). So, I slid in her direct messages (DMs) subtly (I was definitely shooting my shot, and you can compare it to trying to Euro step down the lane for a layup - basketball reference). The final encounter was when I posted on Instagram about some premium cupcakes (if you know, you know) I bought. She slid into my DMs, and the rest has been history. Our love has grown through life milestones, adventurous experiences, sharing my culture, traveling, and food, of course. God knew what he was doing when he made you PERFECTLY for me. I love you and can’t wait to be your Husband. Mr. Addo
