If you're looking for the Hollywood experience, check out one of the many Hollywood tours that are available.
The original Roscoe's location has closed however, this location has easy access and has pretty good service.
The Hollywood Sign is best viewed from within Griffith Park, a large urban park in Hollywood. Mt. Hollywood Trail: A moderately challenging loop trail (5.3 miles) that offers great views. Brush Canyon Trail: A moderately challenging out-and-back route (6 miles). Cahuenga Peak Trail: A more challenging, 3-mile out-and-back trail to the highest point in the park, offering panoramic views. Innsdale Trail: A shorter, easier trail that provides a good view of the sign from a distance, starting at Innsdale Drive. Getting to the Trailheads Canyon Drive Trailhead: Drive up Beachwood Drive until it ends, where you'll find a dirt parking area with a path leading up. Griffith Park Visitor Center: This is a good starting point for many trails, including the Mt. Hollywood Trail. Griffith Observatory: You can hike to the sign from the Griffith Observatory, but it's a longer hike (about 6 miles roundtrip).
We favor the Santa Monica pier over Venice beach however, if this is your first time in LA you should visit one of them.
