When the world slowed down during COVID, we both started new jobs at Heinen’s grocery store. Between stocking shelves and long shifts, we got to talking (and maybe a little flirting, too). One evening as he was leaving work, I teased, “Aww, you’re leaving me?” He smiled and said, “Yeah, unfortunately. Have a good night, see you tomorrow.” A few seconds later, though, he walked back through the door. I laughed and asked, “Uh oh, did you forget something?” With a grin he said, “Yeah—your number.” Our first date was at Chipotle (because, well, everything else was closed). We ate in his car, and one of his fondest memories from that night is me running over the curb trying to park next to him. For the record, that curb was crooked—so it doesn’t count! From that moment on, the rest was history. We’ve been best friends ever since, and now we can’t wait to start our forever together.
