I got there a little early though, so I spent my first month trying to get to know the area, and started visiting churches. I ended up visiting Edge City Church after meeting some of their members at another church and immediately vibed with everyone. I briefly met Joan, but only saw her when she arrived at church and when she left. I noticed she was always with this dude, and they seemed to share car keys, food, etc, so I figured they must be dating. Either way, this dude seemed pretty cool, so I made an effort to get to know him. That winter, our church went on a retreat and this dude introduced me to his fiance. Turns out, he was not actually dating Joan, but was in fact, her brother, Jason, who was now engaged. After the retreat, I continued to only see Joan and Jason very briefly on Sundays before and/or after service, but the thought of Joan remained in the back of mind as that girl from Edge that I didn’t know much about, but was always there, serving the youth faithfully...

God fills my life with answered prayers. I prayed for someone that was humble, but also had pages of characteristics that I prayed for ever since high school. Aaron is my answered prayer. One day at church on Sunday, as I came with Jason, my brother, early to help set up as we were still a church plant at the time and had to set up and break down every Sunday, I saw a new guy helping out with the stage setup. I assumed this guy was just here to check out the church and wasn’t going to be coming consistently. Week after week, Aaron kept coming, faithfully setting up the drum shields and worship equipment. He began to play electric guitar in the back. At first, I thought, “Why did we let such a new guy onto the worship team?” since we’ve had issues with people not committing to serving consistently in the past. But, week after week, Aaron was there. His faithfulness and humble service struck me and I was definitely interested in getting to know him as a friend, but we were never in the same circles as I served in youth ministry and he served on worship. I thought he was pretty cute. But, then, he brought a girl to service and I thought, “Man, he’s probably interested in her.” I think I gave up, and I tried to like other guys, but he still lingered at the back of my head. Part of me prayed that they wouldn’t become a thing...
