We met the modern way - on Hinge - in San Diego. We both worked in the medical device world, which immediately gave us something to talk about. Our first date was at the Lafayette Hotel in Hillcrest for dinner and drinks, and it couldn’t have gone better. We talked about everything - life, work, travel - and ended up playing mini basketball and pool until the place closed. Neither of us wanted the night to end. Somewhere between the laughter and late-night conversations we both realized it just clicked. And we’ve been inseparable ever since.
We were in Cancun, and I told Kayce I set up a little couple’s photoshoot on a nearby island - nothing crazy, just something to finally get some nice pictures for the house (she’d been talking about that empty wall forever). Totally casual, right? What she didn’t know was that I had the whole thing planned weeks before. I hired a photographer, picked the perfect spot, and tried my best to act normal the whole day. So there we are, taking photos with the ocean behind us, sun setting, everything perfect - and when the photographer said, “Alright, lets do this pose", I took her hand, told her how much she means to me, and got down on one knee. She froze for a second, then started laughing, crying, and said yes before I could even finish asking. That “simple” photoshoot turned into the best moment of our lives.
