About

The Larz Anderson House

The Wedding Website of Christian Miller and Jared Axelowitz
When Jared and Christian met at GWU in 2017, Washington, D.C. became the backdrop to their story. During their many years in D.C., they spent countless hours walking through charming streets and eclectic neighborhoods, taking in the beautiful historic homes and museums that adorned their city. One such place—a stately limestone mansion on Massachusetts Avenue—was often admired on their usual route from Dupont into Georgetown. They would comment on its ornate design and wonder what life might look like behind its gates. Years later, the Anderson House will open its doors to welcome us and our guests on our wedding day. As with so many parts of our story, what was once a daydream on a long walk is now taking shape in reality. Completed in 1905 as the Washington residence of diplomat Larz Anderson and his wife, Isabel, the mansion was conceived as a place to gather, entertain, and share the beauty of the world they encountered in their travels. Its Beaux-Arts architecture and European-inspired interiors remind us of Paris, where we got engaged and, years earlier, where we took our first trip together after Jared's semester abroad. We love that the house weaves together so many threads of our story: our beginnings in D.C., our shared love of travel and exploring, and the many places that have shaped our relationship. Today, Anderson House operates as a museum, offering a distinctly-D.C. experience within the setting of a historic home. We love that it brings together so many of the places, experiences, and memories that have shaped our life together. With its intimate scale, we hope it feels like a home away from home for our guests, just as this city is for us.
