It was sheer luck, honestly. I was walking my dog down through Five Points in Athens, not long after moving into the neighborhood. I bumped into a friend from home/college(Elaine), who happened to be painting in front of Breckyn's store, BMA at Home. At the time, Breckyn had a small retail shop in addition to her interior design business. I would pass the store frequently and see her sweeping the porch and working hard during our morning strolls. I never got to meet Breckyn that day I saw Elaine, she was busy running her pop-up shop and chatting up the customers. But, we were close enough to provide the thought that maybe, we could meet soon. A few days passed and Breckyn & I were connected through our mutual friend, Elaine. Our first date was at LRG Provisions in Five Points. It was simple, sweet, and elegant. Cheers to just walking by at the right time...
It was a pretty casual Wednesday. It started just a normal day where I spent the afternoon with Jackson and let Breckyn catch up on some work. We rode bikes and enjoyed the nice summer day playing at a cousin's house. We went to the store, got a car wash, got some ice cream. We decided since the weather was nice, we would order out from Donna Chang's restaurant and sit on the screened-in porch. The porch was a favorite spot of ours because it overlooked a steep hill covered in rocks and trees that resembled the mountains right in the middle of Five Points. As we rode to pick up food from Donna Chang's I asked Jackson if it was ok for me to marry his mom. He showed a big grin and asked, "When?! Next year?!". I laughed and responded that maybe, or maybe tonight? Once I got the green light from the little guy, we went home and set up the table on the patio with our food in the kitchen. Mom came home not long after and our idea was to keep the ring in some sea shells on the table she gathered at the beach in St. George. Jackson and I had made an agreement that we would begin eating dinner and let her find the ring. Breckyn would have to play with the shells as soon as she sat down, so we knew she would see the ring, then I would propose. While Jackson and I made an agreement that seemed firm, I found myself making my plate in the kitchen while Jackson dragged his mom out on the the patio in a nervous and shy manner. While I'm making my way to the patio, I hear a scream and laughter. Jackson had dragged her out there and basically pointed to the sea shells before we even made our plates. Breckyn picked up the shells and saw the ring. In our casual workout clothes on a screened in porch at the end of a long day, we got engaged.
