We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and are currently planning to move forward with our wedding on our original date. We understand some guests may not feel comfortable traveling and attending our wedding. If you are not comfortable attending, know that we will miss you but we completely understand and look forward to the time that we can celebrate with you! For all our guests whether you attend the ceremony in Arizona or not, we will be hosting a second reception at a later date in Mississippi, the details of which will be added to this website when they are determined. Please see our FAQs section of this website for in-depth details for how we and our venue are optimizing health and safety. If anything changes related to COVID-19, we will be providing updates here so please check back frequently. UPDATE: We have added details for the Welcome Party and Sunday Brunch on our Schedule page
Both of us joined an adult kickball league hoping to meet new friends, and through that we met a couple of times but didn't connect. We were separately invited through mutual kickball friends to Tempe Oktoberfest 2015, where we had our first real conversation. Joel was being stood up on a date with another girl, and Janna didn't know many people in the group and was looking for someone to talk to. We really connected for the first time a couple weeks later when Joel organized a haunted house outing with mutual friends as an excuse to get to know Janna better. After the friends left, we stayed up all night talking and laughing and our relationship took off from there! We've spent the last four and a half years growing together through backpacking, travel, cooking, DnD, career changes, buying a house, dogs, and so many other of life's highs and lows. Through all of this we have become each other's life partners and are excited to spend the rest our lives together. We hope you will join us on our wedding day to celebrate our marriage and we hope you have as much fun as we will!
Joel started planning out the proposal nearly a year in advance when he sent friends/spies to find out how Janna wanted to be proposed to. He learned that, similar to him, she wanted to be surrounded by our friends so they could share this special moment with us. He bought the ring in October 2019, so our yearly Friendsgiving feast seemed like the perfect opportunity to pop the question! After dinner was done, Joel said he wanted to make a toast and got everyone's attention. He got down on one knee and said "Janna, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" And Janna was so nervous all she could say was "omg same." She quickly said yes following a laugh from the group and the rest of the evening turned into a celebration.
