Our friendship started when he rescued me from being stranded at Newark airport in NJ on my way back from West Africa. Stephen provided a safe space for me as I came to terms with my queerness, and supported me as I came out and moved to NYC. When he moved to Portland, I knew it was a matter of time before I would follow. I'm so glad I did because it led me to meet and fall in love with Rachel! Stephen is more than just my best friend. Giosi is Janiece's maid of honor! Giosi is one of my former nursing students turned best friend! We got to know each other on a medical mission trip to Peru her sophomore year. Chris is one of Janiece's friends from NYC! Chris established and led a queer-affirming community called Common Ground in NYC, which I joined when I took a travel nurse contract during Covid. The love and acceptance of that community contributed towards my journey to coming out as queer. Chris can always be counted on for good conversation or philosophical debate over good food and good drinks. It's an honor to have him officiate our wedding ceremony.
