We first crossed paths on a summer night in July 2022 at a mutual friend's birthday party (shout-out to Kaashif!). Janice was busy dancing & chatting away, per usual, and was completely unaware that Kenny had noticed her the moment she walked in the door. He shamelessly sent a friend to do some reconnaissance and find out if she was single – the wingman came back with the good news and Kenny was now on a mission! When he finally approached her, his thoughtful (and slightly unexpected) questions left her intrigued. Definitely fooled Kenny! Despite giving him her number, Janice made Kenny wait 4 days to answer his messages, and that might as well have felt like 4 weeks to him. He didn’t hesitate once he had her attention, and Kenny immediately asked her out on their first date. He gave her a time and location in DC, and completely out of character he showed up 15 minutes early to scope out the scene. Janice, completely IN character, was relaxing on the couch without a care in the world. Fortunately, her being late gave him enough time to decide that he should suggest another restaurant... that he did not know the location of. After arriving at the new restaurant, Kenny realized he had no idea where he'd taken Janice, and to make matters worse, the restaurant had stopped serving food! He nervously played it off like he knew exactly what he was doing while Janice, being kind as only she knew how, played along with him. Instead of scrambling for a backup plan to fill the growling stomachs, we decided to just go with it, spending the night, chatting, laughing, learning about one another, and sharing a scooter to ride in the rain. Naturally, Kenny drove, and Janice was the DJ. It might not have been the date that was originally planned, but it turned out to be the perfect start to our story. The early days were filled with late-night FaceTime calls where Kenny fell in love with Janice’s playfulness, love of life, & care for others. To him, Janice had a radiating presence that lit up the entire room, combined with a gracefulness that made her adapt to any environment. Janice was swooned by Kenny’s gregarious nature, intentionality, love of family, and how unashamed he was to display his faith. It didn’t take long for us to realize we had an eerily similar vision for the future and how we wanted to show up as partners. It served as further confirmation that this was meant to be something special. And, on October 5th, Kenny made it official by asking Janice to be his girlfriend during a date where he did order her dinner this time. After 2 years of more chatting, laughing, learning about one another, and going to countless weddings Kenny started the process of designing a ring fit for the love of his life. Kenny’s best attempts to keep it under wraps were not successful and Janice was starting to get suspicious. Despite the challenges, on September 14th, 2024, Kenny proposed to his future bride during a picnic by the water in Washington DC. Throughout these early years of dating & engagement we have leaned on prayer, community mentorship, and deep friendship to build a partnership that we desire to reflect Christ’s relationship with the church. Our aim is for both our wedding and our marriage to represent this at every turn. We could not be more thankful to God for sending each of us a partner who can love so deeply, live so passionately, and be grounded in such shared purpose.
