This is a super relaxed beach town just 15 minutes from Colombo’s international airport – perfect if you’re landing or flying out soon! You can kick back on the wide, sandy beach, watch colourful fishing boats drift by and enjoy some amazing seafood. This town is famous for having the most scenic sunsets! There’s also plenty to explore nearby, like the lively local fish market, the old Dutch Canal, and some charming colonial churches.
This is a very historical and one of the most prominent cities in Sri Lanka. You can explore the sacred Temple of the Tooth (where the tooth relic of the Buddha is housed) , stroll around the scenic Kandy Lake, enjoy traditional cultural shows, and visit the lush Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya (where Queen Victoria and Tsar Nicholas of Russia famously planted trees) :)
This is a beautiful experience to see these beautiful creatures up close in their natural habitat. We recommend skipping the tour of the orphanage and making a trip here on the way to Kandy. Plan to visit around the elephant bathing times for a truly special experience :)
This is one of the most charming little beach towns in Sri Lanka, and is one of the most popular. You can enjoy wandering through narrow streets inside the Dutch-built fort, enjoy the beach and also shop for local. souvenirs from cute little shops. There are also a lot of food options available in the area to enjoy!
Ella’s a relaxed little mountain town . You can do the walk up to Little Adam’s Peak (not too hard but totally worth it), or if you’re feeling more adventurous, try Ella Rock. The Nine Arches Bridge is an iconic landmark, especially when the train goes by, and there’s even a zip line across the valley if you're up for it! You’ll spot a lot of waterfalls like Ravana Falls on the way too.
Nuwara Eliya has a cosy and unique vibe that feels totally different from the rest of Sri Lanka. It’s up in the hills, so the air’s cool and fresh, and you’re surrounded by endless tea plantations and misty mountains. You can walk through the tea fields, visit a factory to see how it’s all made, and even sit down for proper high tea at the Grand Hotel.
