How did you first meet? We first met at Maurice’s aunt and uncle’s Christmas Eve party in 2018. We didn’t really talk much at the party, but at the end of the night when I was leaving, Maurice walked me to my car. We exchanged Instagram after that encounter and initially we kept in touch via Instagram. What was your first date? That’s debatable lol. Unofficially, we went out as friends in April 2021 to Dearborn Station in Chicago while Maurice was in town visiting his family. We officially started talking in January 2022 and had our “first date” over FaceTime right before my birthday. We had our first in-person date when we took a weekend trip to Charlotte, North Carolina in April 2022. When did you know this was “the one”? I don’t know if there was a specific moment that stands out; however, we went on a 7-day cruise together within a year of dating and survived lol. During that cruise, I let Maurice convince me to go on an excursion in the Dominican Republic, where we went hiking and then jumped off a cliff. I knew then I must really love him if I was willing to face my fear of heights to jump off a cliff and into a river. Proposal: How did it happen? I was told that Maurice’s parents were having an anniversary party at RH in Oak Brook to celebrate 35 years of marriage. The plan was for Maurice and I to go to dinner downtown and then head to the party. He convinced me that we needed to stop at his brother, Marcel’s place to “pick up something” and carpool to Oak Brook together. When we got to Marcel’s place he insisted that we go to the lounge area to meet up with his cousins to pre-game before heading to Oak Brook. When we got to the lounge area I was shocked that there was an entire proposal set up and all our family and friends were there. Who’s more likely to be late? I say Maurice but everyone else would say it's both of us Who’s the planner and who’s the go-with-the-flow one? I’m definitely the planner and Maurice goes with the flow Who picked the wedding date? We both did. We knew we preferred something at the end of summer/beginning of fall. Favorite date night activity? The second first date was virtual via Facetime when we did a puzzle and sipped on some wine. The third first date was in person when we visited Charlotte, North Carolina. When did you know this was “the one”? I can not just narrow down a reason why I think Janese is “the one” because she showed me a lot of reasons why I think she’s “the one.” But just to keep things short and simple I have known Janese was “the one” when she constantly has shown up in her authentic self every single day and has been dedicated through time and effort in our long distance relationship. Proposal: How did it happen? Short version: It was a surprise proposal where I had Janese thinking we were going to my parent’s wedding anniversary celebration at RH rooftop. I already had made plans that day to take her out to eat at the Southern Chicago restaurant while everything was getting set up at my brother’s place. At dinner I insisted we were going to carpool with some relatives that came into town (for my parent’s celebration) and we were meeting them at my brother’s place. As we made it to my brother’s place I told Janese, let's just go up to the lounge floor to meet them to pre-game before we head out. When we made it to the lounge floor Janese was surprised and greeted by family and friends and that is when I proposed. Who’s more likely to be late?
