I would've never thought I'd owe my relationship in part to the movie Planet of the Apes. But here we are. I met Femi in Janesville, WI in April of 2017. At the time we were living in the same apartment complex - he was #8 and I was #7. He was eager to make new friends but we both had crazy schedules so never quite got the chance to meet each other. Femi’s solution to this was to tape a hand written note to my door. Here’s what it said: “Hey Janelle, It’s Femi. The dude across the hall. It was lovely stumbling into you and your sister the other day and I hope you had a good weekend and a good start to the week. Anyways, I’ll jump right into it. I’m having a few friends over this weekend for a movie/ lunch get together (trying to watch Planet of the Ape movies). Date is set for Saturday @ 1 pm. I’d ask you in person but we keep missing each other during the week. You’re very much welcome to join us if you’re free for it. Circle your response A. Heck yea, that sounds cool B. I’ve made prior plans C. Dude…I just don’t know you D. Stranger Danger. Heck no.” It turns out I’d made prior plans but I taped a response to his door and our relationship blossomed from there. We bonded over Marvel movies, our mutual distaste for whatever our neighbors were cooking and our shared faith. I moved a year later, Femi asked me out - the rest is history 😊 God is good, life is strange and movies involving primate inhabited planets bring people together.
