Janelle's story goes like this: It was a Sunday night following Bridgetown's 7pm service. She saw her friends Dave and Danielle Walz a few rows up (easily spotted because of Dave's iconic bald head). In an effort to say a quick hello (and dodge those after church social circles), she made her way up the isle and tapped Danielle's shoulder. The Walz's both said hello and beckoned to their friend they had been sitting with. That's when Janelle turned toward Kasey and extended a hand to introduce herself. She immediately thought "Ooo cute!" and smiled and heard his name was Jason. That's right, Jason. She clarified "Jason?" and he said "no, Kasey. Nice to meet you." What she later learned was that Jason was actually Kasey's dad's name and apparently his name had been mistaken as Jason plenty of times before! Weird. A few months later, Janelle heard that Dave and Danielle were inviting their friend Kasey to attend the Tuesday night Community Group she regularly attended. Kasey showed up to group that night, and introduced himself to all of the members (including Janelle). Of course she didn't correct him and clarify that she had met him before, she went along with it and soft smiled her way through the interaction. My (Kasey) memory is not quite as sharp. I have had similar interactions with the Walzs and approximately 100 different friends of theirs. I thought that we did not meet until our community group. At first I thought Janelle was a very quiet, shy person. Little did I know this was far from the truth! After spending week after week in community together, I slowly got a glimpse of who she truly was. I learned that she was brilliant, had a sense of humor, enjoyed playing soccer, and had a heart for children. These things all had direct lines to my heart. One thing lead to another, and our first date included Chipotle, snacks, and a Timbers game. Those things, along with God of course, have been the foundation of our relationship ever since.
